Fad diets and rapid weight loss are bullshit?
NOW WHAT?
Let me explain (to your inner bitch) why focusing on sustainable lifestyle changes, not rapid weight loss, is the mindset game changer.
Sustainable lifestyle changes (like reducing sugar intake or moving your body more) wonโt always be fun AT FIRST, but they should never be PUNISHMENT or cruel.
Sustainable changes require SELF COMPASSION and PATIENCE.
Youโve got to stop going to extremes.
Deprivation and abuse are not tools... theyโre toxic cycles.
Treating your body or your mind like shit so that it does what you want for a few weeks doesnโt lead to long-term changes.
It leads to toxic mindsets and self abuse cycles that can linger for years.
Andโฆ it lead to rebounds.
Which means that weight that you tortured yourself to get off of you is going to come right back.
In full sugar-craving glory.
Thatโs the unsustainable.
Thatโs the point.
Your inner bitch is thriving on the punishment of strict regiment and the release of fucking up. I said it.
Your inner bitch is GETTING OFF on FUCKING UP.
Your inner bitch is GETTING OFF on treating yourself like shit.
No, youโre not a perfectionist.
Youโre a masochist.
Tough shit. Itโs time to change.
INSTEAD, donโt shame or criticize yourself. Start building yourself up.
Instead of creating an ongoing list with reasons why you suck or youโre not good enough or youโre not brave enough or youโre not strong enough to change your life, start recognizing the steps you are taking towards changing your life and celebrate them... in your head, out loud, in writing, in that blog that youโre secretly posting. Start giving yourself credit.
I know this is hard. Thatโs your inner bitch.
Other tips that take less work?
Find a way to enjoy the food youโre eating, either for its inherent good or by making healthier versions of your favorites. Sure it wonโt always stack up with the original at firstโฆ But soon itโll be the new normal. Soon you wonโt care that your pizza is on cauliflower or your burger is wrapped in lettuce. I know that seems hard to believe now but itโs true.
Hate meal prepping? Figure out a food delivery plan like @trifectasystems or a couple easy prep hacks. Or just pick your favorite restaurants locally and find good healthy options there, instead of choosing the cheesecake.
And working out? Exercise doesnโt have to suck. It doesnโt have to feel like a punishment. Get that out of your head right now. Find ways to fit exercise into your life. If your inner bitch is running the shots and carrying a whip, youโre doing it wrong.
Hate the gym but love hiking? Go on fucking hikes.
Donโt have time for long workouts? Start doing faster paced HIIT workouts.
Find lifting weights lame but love salsa dancing. Go salsa dancing.
Feel uncomfortable being the biggest person in the gym? Realize that can be a strength and start powerlifting.
Find movement you enjoy. AND DO IT OFTEN.
Stop getting off on treating yourself like shit. Itโs lame. Fitness isnโt about punishing yourself, itโs about honoring yourself.
